Joe Casely-Hayford 1956 - 2019
Digital Library Resource
FACE are thrilled to announce the Joe Casely-Hayford digital library portal, launched recently at the FACE summit amidst discussion of much needed references and resources for the next generation of creatives.
This result comes as a result of collaboration with Central Saint Martins with all parties wishing to amplify the presence of Joe: a world renowned design talent throughout his career, to serve as an inspiration for our Black and racially minoritised creatives.
Those who were previously seen as the disadvantaged minority have developed a unique vision. A new combination of talents has emerged from the fertile ethnic exchange of cultures. Increasing numbers of Black people have this capacity to draw from and enrich both cultures whereas the reverse is impossible. The majority culture has never felt the need to educate itself fully nor enrich itself with anything other than the western ideal
Joe Casely-Hayford OBE, i-D #124, January 1994.
FACE has many remits, but testimony to our continued call for amplification of Black and Brown creativity is in this special project. Currently in the first phase it is hoped this library will grow as content is recovered. Click on the image below to access.
FACE would like to thank Central Saint Martins colleagues: Hywel Davies, Chris Foreman, Richenda Gwilt, Jayme Cheng
